Mulching a Fall Garden

Fall vegetables thrive during warm days and cool nights.

Have you ever eaten some fall carrots and thought that they tasted amazing? Well, there is something to that. Vegetables produced during warm days and cool nights typically have a higher sugar content and crispness.

I am looking forward to harvesting these late vegetables and tasting their richness. Until then, I am tending to their needs. Now that most of our fall vegetables are well rooted and established in the garden, I put down a blanket of mulch. The mulch is used to help maintain soil temperatures, slow water evaporation and control weeds. Weeds steal precious nutrients from the soil, mulch, hoeing and pulling weeds are the best way to keep the nutrients in the soil and available to your vegetables.

I demonstrated mulching in this video.
