Attention High School Science Teachers: Start Your Engines! Nutrients for Life Foundation has partnered with BRANDT Consolidated – a leading agricultural company that serves growers around the globe –to organize a “Racing to Feed the World” contest for high school students.
The Foundation recently released the second edition of their Smithsonian-reviewed high school soil science curriculum, Nourishing the Planet in the 21st Century, which is available for free download at local.nutrientsforlife.org. In celebration of the release, students will have a chance to design a concept for the exterior of a “Racing to Feed the World” racecar and write an essay about the importance of agriculture in feeding our world’s growing population. The student who submits the winning entry will win an exciting, interactive visit to their school from #51 driver Justin Allgaier. The contest deadline is Friday, November 7, 2014. Participating teachers will receive the Foundation’s Nourishing the Planet in the 21st Century curriculum and a set of posters to supplement an important discussion about feeding the world with their students. Reviewed by the Smithsonian Institution, the curriculum provides field-tested, standards-based classroom activities to help tomorrow’s generation realize that the challenge of feeding our growing population can be solved with science. Examples of the hands-on lab activities include diagnosing nutrient deficiencies in plants and examining the properties of soil. The curriculum covers many of Next Generation Science Standards and has quality STEM lessons. Download your copy today! Interested in participating in this great opportunity?
