Nutrients in the Garden 11: Why Fertilize?
This week we will continue to talk about soil, more specifically, nutrients in the soil. I often get asked, “Why do I need to fertilize?” My response is this, if you want a healthy, productive garden, you need it.
Science Activity: NPK Bracelets
This fun bracelet activity is a great way to introduce the three essential plant nutrients: nitrogen (N), phosphate (P) and potassium (K). As students put the various beads together on the bracelet, they will have a better understanding of what plants need to grow.
Soils and AP Science
Look at these scientists! Lead by AP science teacher, Nancy Bridge, these students measured the amount of NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium) present in five different soil types.
Soil Test Report
Recently, I shared a video with you demonstrating how I took a soil sample from my garden. I brought my “bags of dirt” to our county extension office. Well, the suspense is over! I have the results.
